- PAT Testing, or 'Portable Appliance Testing, is the visual inspection and instrument-testing of electrical equipment for safety purposes.
- It is Health and Safety Best Practice to have periodic PAT Testing carried out in the workplace, rented accommodation and residential care homes, etc.
- It is a legal requirement that electrical equipment in the workplace or that which is supplied by a landlord is 'safe, well-maintained and suitable for the purpose for which it is being used'.
- Many performance venues insist on evidence of performer's electrical equipment having been PAT Tested.
- Many insurance companies will only provide cover if a company's electrical equipment has been PAT tested.
